Domestic Competition

MRBA coordinates both junior and senior domestic competitions that are played weekly at Macedon Ranges Sports Precinct (New Gisborne), Willowbank Primary School, Gisborne Secondary Collage and occasionally at other locations within the Macedon Ranges.

These competitions are a great way to enjoy the social aspect of basketball within a safe, inclusive, and structured environment.

No tryouts are required to play, you can register a team with friends or register as a player to join a team with a spare roster spot.

2026 Winter Registration

MRBA acknowledges that this Winter season represents a change from the approach used over the past two seasons. Following extensive feedback from our community, we have taken the opportunity to review the previously introduced model from both a player and family perspective, as well as from an administrative and competition management standpoint. These adjustments aim to better support and improve the overall experience for participants and families, and ensure the long-term sustainability and smooth delivery of our domestic competition.

Season Dates & Registration

  • Season Length: 15 weeks

  • Registration period: 25 February -27 March 2026 (registration may close early)

Early bird special of $210 if registered before March 8th 2026 9:30pm (rising to $235)

Your registration fee covers court hire, referees, administrative costs and loan playing top.

Please note fees BasketBall Victoria (BV) and Basketball Australia (BA) fees charge annual fees to cover mandatory insurance and administration fees, these fees are automatically added to the above association fees.

Existing Teams from Summer 2025/2026

Non-club teams that played in the Summer 2025/2026 season will automatically roll over into Winter 2026, so there’s no need to submit a new team entry.

Note - As we prepare for the new season, some adjustments may be necessary due to players not returning, new registrations, player movement between teams, or teams being short on numbers. Please note, player movement between teams will be decided by graders and will not be by request.

To ensure a fair and balanced competition, teams may be moved to a higher or lower division if needed. Before the season begins, individual players may also be reallocated to help balance team numbers, and any vacancies may be filled with appropriately graded players based on summer performance and previous experience. Appointed graders will review Summer 2025/2026 results to determine final team placements.

Team Formation & Club Submissions

For Winter 2026, recognised local clubs are invited to submit teams to the competition. Submissions will be accepted through official club requests. Clubs are to submit their list of team nominations, including the relevant nominated division for each team, by contacting domestic@mrba.org.au. If your child would like to play in a club team, please contact the club to arrange the submission. This approach helps strengthen club involvement, supports clear development pathways for players, and encourages continued growth within our local basketball community.

Grading & Competition Structure

For Winter 2026, there will be no grading rounds. Instead, team grades will be based on results and performance from the Summer 2025/2026 season. To make sure the competition stays fair and balanced, entire teams may move up or down a division within the first three weeks if needed (subject to court availability).

Club Registration

We welcome clubs from other associations to register their full teams in our midweek competition. This provides players with an additional opportunity for game play and skill development outside of regular weekend fixtures. If your club would like to enter a team, please contact  for more information.

With the growth of basketball across Macedon Ranges, we would love to see your club colours  represented in our midweek competition.

COACHES AND TEAM MANAGERS

MRBA thrives because of the incredible support of our families and volunteers. Quite simply, kids’ sport only exists thanks to the time, energy and enthusiasm of parents and carers who step forward to help. For each team to take the court this season, we will need dedicated coaches and team managers to guide, encourage and support our young players. All volunteers are required to complete a free registration through PlayHQ and must hold a current, valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).

By getting involved, you’re not just filling a role — you’re helping create a positive, fun and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow and love the game.

JUNIOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS

Anyone who is participating in domestic competition is welcome to join our optional group training sessions held each week of the season. Costs for training sessions are already included in registration fees so all players are free to participate in each session, please bring a drink bottle and ball.

Sessions focus on individual development of the fundamental skills required in basketball.
